Alot of people go driving, cruising or just enjoying the country during spring and summer. I live in the area, and notice the increase in traffic around during those times. If your looking for a down home country place with lots of character and an awesome down home cooking and great service, look no further. This place is widely know among the locals and the passerby's. The service is good, the dress is as you are, and you will see people there you know or those out for a cruise. And the food, well, I've lived here a bit and seen this place open and close a few times, but this time. they got it!! The food is good home cooking and it get's better everyday!! Come on in and sit where you like. :) Dave M. of San Diego, CA says ... During every run through Cuyamaca Rancho state park, somewhere toward the end of a 3 or 4 hour journey, I start thinking about Descanso Junction. Up until this past weekend I had never been, but drove past it dozens of times on my way to and from the park. I dream of a big stack of pancakes.. or maybe eggs... or even milkshakes.. as I shuffle up yet another hill. After I finish, though, my only thought is to get the 40 minute drive over with and get home to a shower and a nap. Finally, after a bit of hiking to Eagle Peak, I stopped in for lunch to Descanso Junction. Inside, the place is your standard rural diner, complete with cheap antiques on the walls, 'funny' books at each booth ('The Geezer's Guide to Life', 'The Fat Farmer's Cookbook', etc), and customer business cards shoved under the glass table top (if you are with it enough to have a website for your business, how about having your email address with that domain, rather than some dopey free account like ilovepets75@yahoo.com). The scene was a bit slow when we went, but then again it was 4:30, that odd time between lunch and dinner. Apart from us, there was one tatooed cowboy hat wearin' pardner at the counter. I don't know how much he had to eat, but he was eating when we showed up, and was still eating as we left. The waitress was extremely nice. My wife had a tuna melt, and i had a patty melt and a vanilla shake. Greasy, tasty, and filling. Awesome! i kicked myself for not stopping here so many times. Jamie F. says ... The service was great and never have had to wait to be seated. The food is fresh, from the orange juice, fruit and potatoes. I would highly recommend if your willing to go on a little mountain drive. Debbie B. says ... This is a great place to go with the family. They have friendly service and their breakfasts are great. It has a perfect country setting with really cute decorations. There was also great stuff on Descanso's history. Anonymous Reviews Excellent service and food. I ordered the taco salad with chicken. Chicken was good and fresh, beans the same, salad makings (lettuce, veggies, etc.) were excellent. Good coffee, friendly folks. Loved it!! Took some friends from Idaho for breakfast two days in a row. Nice small back country feeling, great home cooking, great service and wonderful warm smiles to serve you. Live only 15 minutes away, wished we would have gone sooner. We will be back!! My friend tom and I were MOTORCYCLING through the area in 2007 stopped in for breakfast, fell in love with the waitress, unfortunately never made it back --YET-- WHAT A GREAT PLACE TO START YOUR DAY!!!!RECOMMEND HIGHLY!!! A++++++++ A step back in time. Cool little restaurant. Great food, friendly people and wonderful service. Great atmosphere. The breakfast was fantastic. After breakfast we walked around the place and in the back there was a grassy area next to a roaring creek! Next time I eat at the Junction I am going to get my food to go and sit under the big oak trees and enjoy my meal. When in an unfamiliar area, it's always been my rule of thumb to eat where the locals eat. This little restaurant on Hwy 79 heading up to Julian or the Cuyamacas is where the locals eat and it is a great little place. Hearty portions, good food and great prices. Their breakfasts are especially wonderful - don't miss out on the coffee cake! The food, service, prices everything was excellent. Good variety for the entire family to choose from without being limited. The cheesecake was the best I've ever had. |
